Abstract

The authors are in the process of implementing a team-based approach to graduate education in order to supplement the technical skills required to secure a graduate degree. An evolving team-based environment within both graduate programs and the workplace necessitates that college graduates develop interpersonal and team-based skills and effective coping mechanisms for enhancing team dynamics. Two years after implementing the team-based approach, the authors conducted a survey of professionals with research and teaching responsibilities, government agency personnel, consulting firm employees, and graduates of the team-based approach to test the assumption that it would result in increased marketability and job performance during employees' first two years on the job. The authors present and discuss survey results and the curriculum redesign that resulted from them.
