Abstract

This study explores the use of class-specific group exercises in a course in Intermediate Statistics. Data based on ideas suggested by the students were collected from class members. The instructor used these data to write questions illustrating statistical concepts. Working in groups in class, the students then answered the questions. The average grade on the final exam was found to be higher when the exercises were employed than when they were not.
