Abstract

The authors examined the overall effect of a plus/minus grading system on management students and faculty at a mid-sized public university. The effect of the grading system on students was examined mathematically by determining the grade distribution of students under both the old grading system and the new system. The attitude of students and faculty toward the new system was examined through responses to a questionnaire. The results of the study showed that both students and faculty had negative perceptions of the plus/minus system the university adopted when it was introduced and that the new system had virtually no effect on the aggregate GPA of the students.
