Abstract

The authors explore the nature of a subject-centered teaching space (Palmer, 1998), where it is safe for students to confront their fears and learn how to learn. Second, they seek to establish that in practicing authenticity in one's teaching, the nature of the teaching self is linked inextricably to the quality of engagement with students around the subject -- the "Great Thing" (Palmer, 1988). They use the Johari Window (Luft, 1961, 1984) to illustrate the dimensions of teaching authentically in relation to subject and students. Finally, they offer their experiences in teaching accounting and organizational behavior/management.
