Abstract

This study examined university students' self-insight into how they make decisions on student evaluations of teaching (SETs) and whether there is consensus among their overall evaluations. The authors conducted an in-depth analysis of 218 students at varying stages of their academic careers. They determined that students have self-insight into how they evaluate teachers and that there is general consensus among students when making global ratings. This finding was accomplished by applying techniques developed earlier by Harrison, Ryan, and Moore (1996) to new and different groups of students at another university several years after the initial study. The authors discuss the implications of these results and offer directions for future research.
