Abstract

The authors report on their development of a scale designed to measure student technology proficiency (STP). A questionnaire composed of 43 items constructed to measure STP was completed by 307 undergraduate students. Exploratory factor analysis reduced these 43 to 15 items, creating four subscales: Computer Knowledge and Application, Skill Confidence, Mobile Technology, and Monetary Transactions. The scale was further validated with an additional 405 undergraduate students. The implications of the scale for classroom technology use, including potential future uses, are discussed.
