Implementing Anti-Racist Pedagogy: A Workshop About Integrating Theory Across the Curriculum

Abstract

Doing anti-racist pedagogy presents many challenges. This is especially the case for faculty at small liberal arts colleges (SLACs). The authors argue that through teaching theory related to anti-racism and social justice in the classroom, faculty across disciplines can come together to access other worldviews and ways of being in their teaching. This article describes a successful model to aid in the implementation of anti-racist pedagogy in a format applicable across disciplines.

  • Gwendolyn Gillson, Illinois College

    Gwendolyn Gillson is Associate Professor of Asian Studies in the History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religion department and Academic Director of the First-Year Seminar Program at Illinois College. She is also the editor of The Essential Guide to Buddhism (Bloomsbury 2024).

    Kacie L. Wills is Assistant Professor of English at Allan Hancock College. She is the recipient of research grants from both the Keats-Shelley Association of America and the Huntington Library and is co-editor of the book, Women and the Art and Science of Collecting in Eighteenth-Century Europe (Routledge 2020).
