Abstract

This mixed-methods study examined undergraduate business students’ attitudes toward poverty after completing SPENT, an open-access, digital poverty simulation. Paired t tests of students’ pre- and post-responses on Yun and Weaver’s Attitudes Toward Poverty scale (2010) showed that changes in the structural perspective factor were significant. In addition, the author used the Reflexive Thematic Analysis approach to analyze student reflection papers and construct themes for students’ beliefs about causes of poverty. This research offers implications for instructors who teach about poverty.
