Abstract

Considerable progress has been realized in recent years in the field of performance-oriented teaching of Shakespeare and other dramatic literature. Those who wish to take advantage of the student enthusiasm this approach generates might consider using some form of dramatic performance as a teaching device. During 10 years of teaching Shakespeare through full play production, the author has become convinced that the rewards of this technique more than compensate for any extra effort required of students and teacher. The testimony of students provides eloquent expression of those rewards.
