Abstract

The author describes a teaching method that is based on the need to identify important learning outcomes and to integrate assessment throughout all stages of the teaching-learning cycle. These stages include pretesting, classroom instruction, outcomes, and long-term impacts. A fundamental assertion of the article is that students should know clearly what outcomes are expected of them and that teachers and students should be working together to achieve these expected outcomes. Examples of how to apply these principles are provided.
