Poster Presentations: Finding Alternatives to Written Assignments For Assessing Students

Abstract

The authors share the experience of using poster presentations as an alternative to written assignments for assessing students' learning. The visual and verbal elements of posters have added richness to an assessment profile that had been based largely on written assignments. Both students and instructors have found these assignments to be a stimulating experience and plan to explore this method further with other courses and institutions. The authors are particularly interested in developing links with others exploring this approach.
