Abstract

The authors extended the prewriting strategy of quickwriting into a comprehensive set of learning activities that they call QuickWrite. QuickWrite is an integrated eight-step sequence that they created through classroom experimentation with entry-level Japanese college students who were studying liberal arts and acquiring English as their second language. To support the utility of QuickWrite, the authors present selected individual and team responses from data collected over a two-year period. They contend that QuickWrite supports active-learning principles, and that it can be adapted to a wide range of classroom learning environments.
