Abstract

The author argues that teaching is most effective when instructors develop relationships with each of their students. This interpersonal rapport is achieved using the eight components of honesty/trust, respect, communication, passion/attraction, care and concern, accessibility, variety, and humor/fun. She discusses suggestions for building effective relationships using examples for each of these eight components.
