Abstract

For 25 years an important goal of Miami University's faculty teaching development programs has been to foster scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Although individual teaching grants and campus-wide seminars and workshops have been part of these programs, faculty learning communities (FLCs) have been far more effective in achieving this goal (Cox, 2004a). The author describes the SoTL -- FLC connection, how and why this connection works, its products, individual developmental stages of its participants, and evidence of its success.
