Abstract

As part of a reinvented undergraduate curriculum, several new science courses were developed at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo). To help faculty prepare to teach the new courses, summer workshops were held to allow faculty to try out new material and different methods of presentation for an audience of 16 students who had been hired as professional critics. Both faculty and students praised the experience highly. On the basis of the success of these workshops, the authors believe that students should be included in faculty development workshops as critics and consultants whenever possible to provide "reality checks."
