Abstract

Faculty are the experts about what works and what doesn't work for fostering student learning in their classrooms. Further, every class is potentially an experiment from which the data are either discarded or never gathered. This knowledge typically is lost, however, when they stop teaching a particular course. Faculty could learn much more if they tried explicitly to gather pertinent data about what most affects learning. The author reviews a number of research and publication modes that, if utilized widely, could rapidly advance our collective knowledge of teaching and learning.
