Abstract

Collaborative or team teaching has long been recognized as a beneficial instructional approach, especially in that it forces teachers to examine questions of pedagogy explicitly. Nonetheless, collaborative teaching arrangements may be discouraged for economic or other reasons. This article describes a limited approach to team teaching in which two instructors with solo assignments combined efforts to teach a single unit across separate course sections. The experience demonstrated that small-scale joint teaching can have significant advantages while avoiding the practical problems often associated with large-scale collaborative arrangements.
