Using Learning Styles in College Teaching: The Value of Educational Technology

Abstract

The author argues that educational technology can facilitate learning styles-based instruction in college courses. She provides a brief overview of learning styles and the effectiveness of style-responsive instruction; an explanation of Perceptual Modality Style as an important learning-style characteristic; personal strategies for identifying students' perceptual needs; and a discussion of the value of technology in accommodating diverse perceptual needs, including course examples and assessment support. The article concludes with recommendations to college instructors for adding value to their courses through educational technology.
