Abstract

This article describes a collaborative effort to enhance the effectiveness of a study abroad course. A professor of human development, with expertise in group process, and a professor of general education, with expertise in Greek myth and culture, use a case study format to apply theoretical models of group process to the travel and learning experience. They discuss using day-to-day process observation notes to examine the interactive group learning experience. The general education professor reflects on what she gained from this approach to improving the design of her course. Both explore implications of applying group development theory to other study abroad experiences.
