Abstract

Despite substantial research on faculty learning communities (FLCs), little is known about international non-tenure track faculty (NTTF) engaging in professional learning activities intended for tenured professors, particularly in non-US contexts. This in-depth autoethnography explores the case of an FLC composed of non-Korean lecturers in Korea. The authors analyzed the FLC through nine factors in Blumberg and Pringle’s (1982) opportunity to perform framework. Findings revealed that while all nine factors apply to the case, organizational policies, rules, and procedures dominate. The authors recommend that administrators reduce restrictions against international NTTF in FLC grant opportunities and that international NTTF overcome institutional language barriers.
