Abstract

Traditional Western-oriented pedagogical praxis has not proven to be adequate in terms of indigenous people’s success in education, especially within college settings. This article describes a program that positions the cultural strengths and resiliency of the adult native learner front and center. This is done via a unique community of practice (CoP) involving a cohort of rural native Alaskans whose cultural strengths lend themselves to the creation of a learning community in which learning becomes a collaborative and holistic experience.
