Abstract

This study explored the impact of community service-learning (CSL) on the educational development of undergraduate social work students related to professional competencies. Undergraduate student participants (n = 155) completed a required volunteer CSL experience in social work practice courses during both their sophomore and junior years. The results of a paired samples t test indicate there was a statistically significant difference in the supervisor’s evaluation score for students completing a CSL at the sophomore and junior levels. Findings demonstrated that more experience in CSL activities increases a student’s evaluation score.
