Abstract

The authors describe their efforts to redesign a team-taught course using dialogue as the undergirding prerequisite for achieving transformational learning. They incorporated the following approaches: team teaching in a way that models a learning conversation, teaching explicitly the nature and skills of dialogue, creating assignments that incorporate peer-learning conversations, requiring students to engage in learning conversations with textual materials, and integrating historical narratives into the learning process.
