Abstract

Landing a tenure-track faculty position is a dream of many doctoral students, but little is known about transitioning issues pursuant to that dream. The purpose of this autoethnography was to explore the author's experience as she transitioned into a tenure-track assistant professorship at an institution in the Northeastern U.S. In her exploration of faculty in transition from an insider's perspective, she drew conclusions about how her experiences were related to existing research findings, determine what was missing from the literature on faculty socialization, and suggested ways in which individuals and institutions can improve the transitional process for newly hired faculty.
