Abstract

When two Institutes of Technology/Polytechnics merged in 2016, an opportunity arose to disrupt “business-as-usual” and explore ways to combine good practice elements from each legacy organization. In the authors’ Research Office, one of the more visible manifestations has been the formalization of conversations, consultation, peer review, and feedback related to the research proposal submission process. The authors explain how their Research Community of Practice meetings work: their remit, membership, processes, and evolution. They describe how the social learning that occurs is beginning to change practice for research applicants, facilitating staff and the faculties they represent.
