Abstract

University teaching is often a cross-cultural endeavor involving diverse student and faculty worldviews and interactions. Twenty-five higher education faculty from different disciplines at a four-year university responded to a call to form a Faculty Learning Community in Diversity and Multiculturalism. The purpose was to develop culturally responsive teaching practices across university instructors. Five of the original FLC members continued as a cultural competence task force the following year. The authors describe the work developed by the original FLC and

the second-year continuing group. Quantitative and qualita-
tive analyses indicate a positive impact on university faculty

attending the FLC’s workshops and presentations.
