Abstract

The authors define two types of design -- Type I design: static design and Type II design: dynamic design -- and four course design variables (course assignment format, course delivery format, course pace control, and course product). They examine the types and variables of course design in relation to student evaluation of a course or instructor by eliciting the responses of 322 students in 22 class sections from an eastern state university. The results of logistic regressions suggest that the four course design variables can be used to predict the probability of students -- satisfaction with a course and instructor, and that when Type II design principles are used in any of the four course design variables, this probability increases.
